India’s swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been living the best time of his cricketing career. Recently, he won the hearts of one and all with his consistent performances in the just concluded England’s tour to India, where he played an instrumental knock in India’s victory.

Now ahead of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals have announced Rishabh Pant as their new skipper after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out with a shoulder injury. Shreyas had dislocated his left shoulder while fielding during the first ODI match against England in Pune earlier this month.

This is going to be Pant’s debut season as the skipper of an IPL franchise. Earlier, Pant has captained Delhi’s state team in the past. He was also the skipper in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament in 2017. Announcing the big news with the fans, Delhi Capitals wrote:

“Rishabh Pant will be our Captain for #IPL2021
@ShreyasIyer15 has been ruled out of the upcoming season following his injury in the #INDvENG series,”

Meanwhile, fans on social media went berserk as they gave mixed reactions to Rishabh’s appointment as the skipper of Delhi Capitals. While several cricketers and fans took to their twitter and came up with amazing tweets for the young Indian keeper-batsman. On the other hand, there were many who were not happy with the decision.

However, one of the most special tweets came from none other than former Indian cricketer and world cup hero Suresh Raina.

“Heartiest congratulations to @RishabhPant17 on being named the captain of @DelhiCapitals for this season. I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride”
