Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has continued his dream form in T20I as he smashed 61 runs off only 22 balls in the second T20I against South Africa in Guwahati. Three days ago, in the first T20I, in Thiruvananthapuram, the batter thumped 50 runs off 33 balls while all other batters struggled to score run-a-ball.

On a flat pitch in Guwahati, Suryakumar Yadav was once again at this best, and propelled India’s score from par to beyond reach of South Africa.

During his knock of 61 today, Suryakumar Yadav became the 8th Indian batsman to record 1000 T20I runs. Despite spending most of his T20I career batting at number 4 and 5, he’s the third-fastest to do so (after Kohli and Rahul) in only 31 innings. Suryakumar now averages 39 and has an astonishing strike rate off 177.

While in terms of innings, there are batters who have reached to 1000 runs in fewer innings than Suryakumar Yadav, this is a cause of his batting position in the middle-order. However, a truer metric of his incredible T20I career reflects in the fact that Suryakumar Yadav has taken the least number of balls to reach 1000 T20I runs!

Yes, Suryakumar Yadav is now the quickest in terms of balls taken/ strike rate (174) upon the time of reaching 1000 T20I runs. He took 573 balls to cross his 1000th T20I run, quicker than the next best Glenn Maxwell who reached the landmark in 604 balls.

New Zealand opener Colin Munro is next in the list with 635 balls followed by 640 balls taken by West Indies opener Evin Lewis.

Suryakumar Yadav has been in just a jaw-dropping form in 2022. He’s the leading run-scorer in T20Is this year – with 793 runs scored at a strike rate of 185! No other batsman who has scored more than 450 T20I runs this year has a better strike rate than Suryakumar Yadav. The 31-year-old is going to be India’s main man in the batting department at the T20 World Cup 2022.
