India skipper Rohit Sharma, who is known for his calm demeanour on the field, didn’t abstain any in the Mohali T20I against Australia and was very much involved in the field showing his expressions and being at this animated best.

One moment between him and Dinesh Karthik, where a charged-up Rohit can be seen grabbing the wicket-keeper’s neck in excitement, went viral and fans flooded the internet with hilarious memes on that.

That incident happened in the 12th over of Australia’s innings, when Umesh Yadav struck with the wickets of Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell. Both the times the umpire had failed to detect the edge of the batsman, and both the times India got the decision overturned using DRS.

After India had opted for a review for Maxwell’s wicket, cameras caught a passionate, energetic Rohit grabbing Karthik’s neck jokingly. The videos and photos of the incident spread like wildfire on the Internet.

Suryakumar Yadav revels why Rohit Sharma was so emotional in the Mohali match

Ahead of the second T20I of the series, in Nagpur, India batter Suryakumar Yadav was asked to clarify what had actually transpired between the two.

“Rahi baat wo DRS ki toh kabhi kabhi peeche tak awaz jati nahi hai aur left and right mein acche se awaz ati hai edge ki aur unka wo alag hi banter hai, itne saalo se jante hai ek dusre ko aur ek saath itna khela hua hai toh itna toh hasi mazak thoda banta hai,” Suryakumar explained.

(Talking about that DRS, you don’t hear the edges clearly from behind the stumps at times but you do from the right or left side of the field. And that was their banter. They know each other for a long time and have played a lot of cricket together so that kind of fun moments are allowed between them),” Suryakumar said.

The usually tranquil and less expressive Rohit Sharma wore his emotions on his sleeve in Mohali. When he asked about Rohit’s expressions in the field, Suryakumar said, “Field pe itna pressure hota hai ki har situation mein kya karna hai toh aisa ho jata hai kabhi kabhi (These things happen on the cricket field because at times there is a lot of pressure).”

Australia won the first T20I by 4 wickets. Cameron Green’s 61 (30) and Matthew Wade’s 45* (21) helped the visitors chase down 209 in the last over. The second T20I is slated for Friday in Nagpur, before the third T20I on Sunday in Hyderabad.
