“Suryakumar Yadav Not Yet The Best T20 Player From India”: Tim Southee Made A Big Statement

Suryakumar has left fans across the globe mesmerized with his fearless batting in the shortest format of the game. He is among the best players in world cricket at the moment and is currently the no.1 on the ICC T20I batters ranking. During the 2022 T20 World Cup, SKY became the first Indian and only the second player in history to complete a total of 1,000 years in the shortest format at the international level in a single calendar year.

On Sunday, SKY continued his golden run of form in the shortest format of the game with a stunning hundred in the 2nd T20I match between India and New Zealand at the  Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. This was his second century of the year this year. Lacing 11 boundaries and seven sixes, SKY smashed an unbeaten 111 off 51 balls to help India win by 65 runs in the second T20I match. He smashed the Kiwi bowlers all around the ground as he launched a brutal attack on them. All thanks to his knock, Team India took a 1-0 lead in the series with a 65-run victory.

While the star batter has been receiving praise from all around, veteran pacer Tim Southee feels that SKY will have to prove himself consistently to become India’s best in the shortest format.

Southee was asked if Suryakumar is the best ever T20 player from India he has bowled to. Responding to this, he said: “There has been a number of great T20 players from India, so many great cricketers. Surya has been having a great 12 months and it is for him to continue to do what he has been doing (for over a period of time),

He added: “India has produced so many amazing cricketers not only in T20 format but also across the three formats. You have got so many players who have played for a long period of time and have achieved so much over a long period of time.”

He smashed boundaries and sixes at will, his last 64 runs coming off just 18 balls. He smashed the Kiwi bowlers at an impressive strike rate of 217.64. Tim Southee, who returned with figures of 3.34 from his four overs, said: “He (Suryakumar) is a player who can hit in a number of ways. He has been in great form in the last 12 months — IPL and international cricket. He came up with a very impressive knock today,”
