India defeated hosts Australia in their first warm-up fixture which was played on Monday at The Gabba, Brisbane. The Men In Blue prevailed by a small margin of 6 runs, with Harshal Patel and Mohammed Shami defending 16 runs in the last 2 overs after the batsmen had piled up 186 on the board.

Opener KL Rahul showed great signs of aggression in the powerplay and recorded a 27-ball fifty, before the in-form Suryakumar Yadav, too, flexed his muscles by scoring 50 runs off 30 balls. Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing touch with 20 off 14 balls.

Australia looked in control of the chase as skipper Aaron Finch hit 76 off 54 balls and opening in this game Mitchell Marsh scored 35 off 18. Indian bowlers then pulled back things to keep the defence alive before Harshal and Shami bowled two terrific death overs to seal the victory.

Suryakumar Yadav’s hilarious comment caught on stump mic

The usually explosive Suryakumar Yadav was in a bit of a subdues mood in this game – but only by his standards as he scored at a strike rate of little over 150. After reaching his fifty off 32 balls, with the help of 6 fours and a six, Suryakumar Yadav was heard telling the non-striker, Axar Patel, that he is not in the mood to hit much today. Amusingly, SKY got out on the very next ball, giving a return catch to seamer Kane Richardson.
