India thumped Zimbabwe aside to register a massive 71-run victory at the MCG on Sunday in the last match of the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2022.
This win meant India finish at the top of Group 2 and they will face England, who had finished second in Group 1, in the second semi-final in Adelaide. Pakistani miraculously qualified for the semis – after the Netherlands registered a big upset by beating South Africa – and they will meet New Zealand in the first semi-final in Sydney. The final is slated for November 13, Sunday at the MCG.
Even though the India-Zimbabwe game was a dead rubber – India qualified for the semis after South Africa’s loss to the Dutch – the crowd turned up in great numbers at the MCG, close to the number in the India-Pakistan game; according to stat man Mohandas Menon, the crowd was counted at 82507 for the India-Zimbabwe game.

Rohit Sharma’s fan handed a massive fine for intruding the game
Among those, one young Indian fan came rushing into the field when India were bowling. This youngster, who held India’s flag in his hand, seemed to be a Rohit Sharma fan as he sprinted in the 30-yard circle where the Indian skipper was fielding.
However, before he could Rohit, the ground security guards grabbed him and took him down. Sharma also quickly came near the fan asking the security guards to go easy on the youngster, who then even broke into tears when he was being taken away.
This person who invaded the ground during the game was then taken into the stadium custody and a hefty fine of 6.5 Lakhs INR has been levied on him.

Suryakumar Yadav was the star of the show for India vs Zimbabwe as the batter clattered 61 runs off just 25 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes to send the MCG crowd in a frenzy, helping India post 186/5 after being 101/4 at one stage.
“My plan has always been clear, I do the same thing in the nets, I practice the same shots. I bat according to the situation and what the team needs,” Suryakumar said. “I think the atmosphere in the team is really nice and so is the build-up towards the knockout, really looking forward to that game,” he added about the upcoming semi-final vs England.
