The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup is just around the corner. The T20 World Cup 2022 will kick off on October 16 in Australia with the final slated for November 13 at the iconic MCG.
This year’s tournament is set to be a turning point in the history of T20Is as many veteran cricketers will bid adieu to the shortest format after the T20 World Cup 2022. A number of players are in the last phase of their international careers, while some are expected to move away from the shortest format to focus on the longer formats.
The oldest player to have played in the T20 World Cup history is Hong Kong’s Ryan Campbell, who featured in the 2016 T20 WC at the age of 44!
In this article, we look at the 5 oldest players (full members) who will take part in the T20 World Cup 2022:

Mohammad Nabi
Aged 37 and 280 days, Mohammad Nabi has been once again given the command of the Afghanistan team. The veteran all-rounder has an experience of over 350 T20s and over 100 T20Is.
Nabi is the oldest player among the 8 teams that have qualified for the Super 12. Mohammad Nabi has featured in all the last 5 T20 World Cups Afghanistan have played.
Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik stunned everyone as he made a return to the Indian team after three years, at the age of 37! He was called in India’s T20I side in the specialist role of a finisher after his exploits in the IPL 2022 – 330 runs at a strike rate of 183 – for RCB.
Dinesh Karthik, aged 37 and 130 days, has since then justified his place with regularly playing impactful knocks toward the end of the innings. He has also been chosen as the preferred keeper-batsman over Rishabh Pant. Karthik was part of India’s T20 World Cup winning side back in 2007 and now will play what is likely to be his last T20 WC.
David Warner
David Warner will be 36 by the end of October and is expected to choose formats after the tournament. Warner played a key role in Australia’s maiden T20 WC triumph last year in the UAE, scoring 289 runs at an average of 48.
Warner made his T20I debut in 2009 and has been one of the standout openers in the format. He’s donned the opening duties for Australia in all of the last 6 T20 WCs.
Martin Guptill
Martin Guptill is also playing perhaps his last T20 World Cup. Guptill, who recently turned 36, is the third-leading T20I run-scorer.
The right-handed opener has featured in the last 6 T20 World Cups. Guptill had his best T20 WC last year when he scored 208 runs, helping New Zealand reach the final.
Shakib Al Hasan
Aged 35 years and 200 days, Shakib Al Hasan has been reinstated as Bangladesh’s captain in their time of despair. Shakib, who made his T20I debut back in 2006, is one of the only few players who have featured in all 7 T20 World Cups so far and has played 31 matches in the competition.
Ranked second in the ICC men’s T20I all-rounder’s ranking, Shakib Al Hasan will again have to shoulder extra responsibility of the Bangladesh team in an ICC event.
