T20 World Cup 2022 SA vs NED: Sachin Tendulkar Royally Trolls “Choked” South Africa After Shocking Loss

The T20 World Cup 2022 keeps on giving upsets and perhaps the biggest one came on the last day of the Super 12 round when the Netherlands defeated South Africa on Sunday at the Adelaide Oval which eliminated Temba Bavuma’s side from the semi-final race and sent them home packing.

It would be an understatement to say that this was a shocking result; but elation it caused among the Pakistan and Bangladesh fans as the two teams them met in a virtual quarter-final later in the day.

South Africa’s loss and their elimination also meant that India qualified for the semi-final. They will play a dead-rubber then vs Zimbabwe. South Africa’s victory would have taken them to the semis, and would have made the India-Zimbabwe game a must-win for India. But it is not to be.

Sachin Tendulkar trolls South Africa who “choked” once again

Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar decided to have some fun on social media as he hilariously trolled South Africa who have “choked” again in an ICC tournament.

“Went for breakfast with a friend. Told him we’ll go Dutch. He almost choked at the proposition!” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, his tweet eked out laughter from fans.

It was almost taken for granted by everyone that South Africa will defeat the Netherlands and proceed to the semi-final. But Cricket, eh! In a tournament highlighted with half-a-dozen upsets, this was perhaps the most captivating one. And the cruel story of South Africa in ICC tournaments continued.

Given a target of 159, South African openers trudged along at run-a-ball, de Kock scored 13 off 13 and Bavuma scored 20 off 20 as the Proteas finished and both got out by the end of the powerplay. Rossouw and Markram upped the ante a bit, but neither of them, not Miller or Klaasen could play a big knock, and eventually, South Africa fell 13 runs short of Netherlands’ total. Colin Ackermann was named the Player of the Match for his knock of 41 runs off 26 balls.
