T20 World Cup 2022: Updated Points Table After The IND vs SA Match

India suffered their first defeat of the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 as South Africa emerged victorious by 5 wickets to take 2 points and get closer to sealing a semi-final spot. The Proteas remain unbeaten after three matches.

The two teams clashed in an entertaining encounter on Sunday in Perth with Temba Bavuma’s side crossing the finishing line in the last over of their chase.

With this victory over India, South Africa has jumped to the top of Group 2 with 5 points in 3 matches. Their first game with Zimbabwe was washed out, and after that, they thrashed Bangladesh by a heavy margin of 104 runs. But, it was the match against India that was to be decisive and crucial for their semi-final fate, as this now has effectively eliminated Pakistan barring any miracle or any upset.

India is second in the group with 4 points – claimed after wins over Pakistan and the Netherlands – after 3 matches.

Bangladesh is third with also 4 points from 3 matches(defeated Netherlands, lost to South Africa, defeated Zimbabwe), followed by Zimbabwe who have 3 points in 3 matches (washout vs South Africa, defeated Pakistan, lost vs Bangladesh).

Earlier in the day, Pakistan opened their account by registering a 6-wicket win over the Netherlands, after they had lost to India and Zimbabwe. Pakistan are fifth in the table with 2 points in 3 matches. And the Netherlands, with 3 losses to Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, is at the bottom of the table with 0 points.

Here is a look at the points table of Group 2 after the India vs South Africa match:

Points table

The Group 1 is being led by New Zealand, who hammered Australia by 89 runs and Sri Lanka by 65 runs and sandwiched is their wash out with Afghanistan. With 5 points in 3 matches and a terrific NRR, New Zealand are all but through to the semi-finals.

England, Ireland and Australia all have 3 points each in 3 games – 1 win, 1 loss, 1 wash-out for all three. And they would be competing hard for a semi-final spot.

Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are with 2 points each in 3 matches and would need a miracle to finish at the second spot in their group.
