Fans Call Kane Williamson "Cheater" For Claiming A Dropped Catch, He Apologised To Jos Buttler

Kane Williamson is considered the epitome of gentleman ship in the game, someone revered for his attitude as a player who plays in the spirit of the game. It’s seldom that fans get angry and troll him, he even gets away often for his low scores and dip in form.

But on Tuesday, Kane Williamson was not only trolled heavily, but also was labeled “cheater” by a number of fans, who said that the New Zealand captain doesn’t deserve the “Nice Guy” tag anymore, because of an incident in the game against England in Brisbane

Kane Williamson claims a dropped catch, then apologizes to Jos Buttler

On the third ball of the 6th over of England’s innings, bowled by Mitchell Santner, Jos Buttler mistimed his scoop as he attempted to hit a boundary over the covers after making some room by moving on the leg side.

Kane Willamson, fielding at cover inside the circle, ran back and put in a good dive, and grabbed the ball with both his hands. However, as he touched the ground, the ball wriggled out of his hands and hit the ground.

But the ball bounced once on the ground and Williamson grabbed the ball again. He lay flat on the ground and claimed the catch to be taken.

The umpires were uncertain about a clean catch and took the matters to the third umpire, who just needed one look to confirm that the ball had not just touched, but actually bounced on the ground and again back in Williamson’s hands. This was shown on the big screen inside the Gabba stadium and the entire crowd and the players saw this incident.

Soon, Kane Willaimson apologized to Jos Buttler with a gesture of his hand.

Williamson, however, faced severe backlash from fans on Twitter; they reckoned the Kiwi skipper has disappointed them and has let them down.
