Fans Call Kane Williamson "Cheater" For Claiming A Dropped Catch, He Apologised To Jos Buttler
Kane Williamson is considered the epitome of gentleman ship in the game, someone revered for his attitude as a player who plays in the spirit of the game. It’s seldom that fans get angry and troll him, he even gets away often for his low scores and dip in form.
But on Tuesday, Kane Williamson was not only trolled heavily, but also was labeled “cheater” by a number of fans, who said that the New Zealand captain doesn’t deserve the “Nice Guy” tag anymore, because of an incident in the game against England in Brisbane
Kane Williamson claims a dropped catch, then apologizes to Jos Buttler
On the third ball of the 6th over of England’s innings, bowled by Mitchell Santner, Jos Buttler mistimed his scoop as he attempted to hit a boundary over the covers after making some room by moving on the leg side.
Kane Willamson, fielding at cover inside the circle, ran back and put in a good dive, and grabbed the ball with both his hands. However, as he touched the ground, the ball wriggled out of his hands and hit the ground.
But the ball bounced once on the ground and Williamson grabbed the ball again. He lay flat on the ground and claimed the catch to be taken.
The umpires were uncertain about a clean catch and took the matters to the third umpire, who just needed one look to confirm that the ball had not just touched, but actually bounced on the ground and again back in Williamson’s hands. This was shown on the big screen inside the Gabba stadium and the entire crowd and the players saw this incident.
Soon, Kane Willaimson apologized to Jos Buttler with a gesture of his hand.
Williamson, however, faced severe backlash from fans on Twitter; they reckoned the Kiwi skipper has disappointed them and has let them down.
Here are some of the tweets labeling Kane Williamson as "cheater" after this incident with Jos Buttler:
Kane Williamson is a cheater, Karma will take care of him will be said by no one because he has a cute smile and doesn't run the non striker out like Ashwin— Udit (@udit_buch) November 1, 2022

And people call Kane Williamson most respected gentleman of cricket.— ```~_Saksham_~``` (@Its_SakshamR) December 30, 2020
He is the biggest cheater after Smith in current world.
Smile doesn't make a man gentleman.
He played 10 more minutes, absolutely cheating by home team.
I wager someone without Kane Williamson's nice guy reputation would get slaughtered for claiming that.— Mark Puttick (@GryllidaeC) November 1, 2022
I do believe he genuinely thought he caught it cleanly, but a player with a "worse" reputation would be judged differently.

My grandson bats like Umesh Yadav but he idolizes Kane Williamson for his honesty. Today his favorite cricketer has let him down. Cricket won't be the same for him.— Silly Point (@FarziCricketer) November 1, 2022

Kane Williamson immediately apologised Jos Buttler for claiming the false catch which was unintentional, if the fielder was an Indian player then Buttler would have apologised to the fielder instead and walked off the field without listening to the umpires.#Cricket#T20WorldCup— 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 👑 (@imtheguy007) November 1, 2022
And that’s why nobody should ever take the fielder’s word re: catches. They simply don’t know sometimes. Kane Williamson is an honest bloke and even he thought he’d caught that. Imagine giving some others (who shall remain nameless) the power to claim catches #T20WorldCup— James Morgan (@thefulltoss) November 1, 2022
I’m not sure Kane Williamson can possibly think he caught that. It wasn’t in any part of his hand when it bounced— Tyrone Marshall (@TyMarshall_MEN) November 1, 2022
Disappointed in Kane Williamson. Out of all the players in the world, he would've been the last player in mind to do something like this— Ezza (@EzzaSyed) November 1, 2022
