The IPL 2023 auction is set to be staged in mid-December with the 10 teams colliding in the battle of smarts and purse money to make their squads stronger from last season.
One name that is sure to start a fierce and long bidding war is Cameron Green. Fans have already touted Green to bag a million dollars in the upcoming auction. And this is quite a stunning fact because Green has featured in only 5 T20Is for Australia so far.
But it is what he did in the recent series against India that will tilt the franchise to splurge big money on the Australian all-rounder. In the absence of the rested David Warner, Green got the opportunity to open, and he showcased his strength and range.
He smashed 61off 30 balls in Mohali and 52 off 21 in Hyderabad to gain the eyeballs of fans and IPL franchises. Green’s potential is immense – he’s only 23 – making him a hot commodity at the auction. As history has it, IPL franchises have often spent extravagantly on overseas seam-bowling all-rounders.
3 IPL teams have made inquiries about Cameron Green, Decision of NOC with Cricket Australia

According to a report in Insidesport, four IPL franchises – Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings – have shown interest in acquiring the services of Green.
Now, while Cameron Green would get a huge IPL deal at the auction, that he will get to enter in the auction is not confirmed. This depends on Cricket Australia (CA) whether they will give him the NOC considering he’s an important part of their Test team, and the youngster has in the past had to deal with injuries.
Former CSK and Australia opener Matthew Hayden asserted the importance of seam-bowling all-rounders and how crucial they are, and that’s why the IPL franchises are willing to spend big money on Green. Hayden also urged CA to not stand in the way of a youngster making millions.
“He hasn’t been picked up in the IPL but I’ll tell you what, bowling all-rounders, they are gold dust. Gold dust. Especially if you can bang straight out of the middle,” Hayden was quoted as saying.
Sunil Gavaskar concurred with Hayden’s views and added: “Well, there’s the auction in a couple of months from now and seeing Green I feel he will be in huge demand.”
The IPL 2023 is likely to kick off in the last week of March. After three seasons, the tournament will return to its home and away format.
