All-rounders are rare and vital commodities in limited-over cricket because they help their teams find the much needed balance in the line-up.
If you don’t have a genuine all-rounder in your XI in limited-over cricket, you are always a batsman or a bowler short.
Here are the top 5 all-rounders in ODI cricket in the last 10 years –
#1 Shakib Al Hasan:
Shakib Al Hasan has been Bangladesh’s premier player with both bat and ball in the last 10 years in 50-over cricket.
While Shakib has consistently scored runs batting in the middle order at no. 4 or no. 5, he has also bowled his full quota of overs in almost every game and has been effective with the ball in all conditions.
Shakib has scored 4035 runs in the 121 ODIs that he has played for Bangladesh in the last 10 years. The southpaw has also grabbed 165 wickets at a bowling average of 29.92.
#2 Angelo Mathews:
Angelo Mathews doesn’t bowl a lot these days, but he was often Sri Lanka’s first change bowler in the initial years of the last decade.
However, he sustained back to back injuries after 2015 and started playing as a specialist batsman for Sri Lanka.
Mathews’ record in ODI cricket in the last 10 years is right up there with the top all-rounders in the world. The former Sri Lankan captain has scored more than 5000 ODI runs and grabbed more than 100 ODI wickets since 2010.
#3 Mohammed Hafeez:
Mohammed Hafeez’s bowling action has been reported quite a few times in the recent years and that’s why he has not bowled frequently since 2017, but his overall record since 2010 is still pretty good.
Hafeez is another player who has completed the double of 5000 ODI runs and 100 ODI wickets in the last 10 years. The off spinner, who is also an opening batsman, has got 5740 runs and 101 wickets to his name in ODIs since 2010.
#4 Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes averages over 40 with the bat in ODI cricket for England in the last 10 years and it’s not only his average which stands out, but his strike rate as well. He bats at no. 5 for England and scores runs at a significantly high tempo.
And then he hustles with the ball as well, bowling in the middle phase of the innings. Stokes has got 70 wickets in 95 games for England, apart from scoring 2682 runs with the bat in the last 10 years.
#5 Ravindra Jadeja:
Ravindra Jadeja’s runs’ tally in ODI cricket is not as high as the above mentioned four players, but that’s because he has mostly batted at no. 7 for India and has not got a lot of time to score runs.
Jadeja has, however, still scored close to 2000 runs and maintained a batting average of over 30 with the bat since 2010. The left-hander has also got 170 wickets at a bowling average of 35.65.
