This Conversation Between Ajaz Patel And Virender Sehwag Is Pure Cricket Gold

Ajaz Patel didn’t win the Man of the Match award in the Wankhede Test despite achieving the rarest of rare achievements. He ticked almost all the boxes as a bowler during the second Test match between the Indian cricket team and New Zealand.

On Friday, Patel became only the third bowler in history, after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble, to pick up all 10 wickets in an innings. However, his heroics with the ball couldn’t help his team win the game against India.

But Ajaz has been receiving praises from all corners for his terrific show with the bat. From cricketers to fans, everyone is hailing the brilliance of Patel. Among many, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also took to Twitter and hailed Patel for his bowling efforts. He wrote:

“One of the most difficult things to achieve in the game. 10 wickets in an innings. A day to remember for the rest of your life, #AjazPatel. Born in Mumbai, creating history in Mumbai. Congratulations on the historic achievement.”

A day after Sehwag shared this tweet, hailing Ajaz Patel, the Mumbai-born cricketer responded to the former opening batter by recalling an incident that the legendary batsman might have forgotten.

In his reply, Ajaz Patel recalled a funny story when Sehwag has smashed him to the cleaners during one of the net sessions in New Zealand, probably back in 2008/09. He wrote:

“Thank you @virendersehwag, funny story I still remember you smashing me out of the ground at the outer oval at Eden Park when I came in as a net bowler.”

For the unversed, the incident Ajaz Patel was referring to could be from the 2008/09 series, when India had toured New Zealand and defeated them 1-0 in Test and the ODIs 3-1.

Meanwhile, Sehwag was quick to notice the reply of Ajaz Patel and come up with a reply to it. Sehwag penned down a heartfelt note for Ajaz Patel, reminding him that times change and that this moment is all about his incredible achievement. He wrote:

Waqt ki aadat hai, badalta zaroor hai (It’s a habit of time that it changes). What you have achieved in Mumbai is extra-ordinary so much so that India ki jeet se jyada aapke charche hain (There are more talks about you than India winning. May you achieve ever more success and good luck),”
