On 2nd April 2021, the Indian cricket fraternity and the fans are celebrating the 10th anniversary of India’s triumph at the 2011 World Cup. India became the first team to experience the glory of the World Cup at home. On the back of some scintillating performances of cricketers including MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, and others that helped team India win the World Cup.

Among others, Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan played an instrumental role in India’s victory. He picked 21 wickets in the tournament and was the joint-highest wicket-taker along with Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi.

Infact, he was also India’s leading bowler in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka, where he gave a crucial start to team India with the ball as initial bowling figures were 5-3-6-1. He finished at 2-60 in the 10 overs he bowled.

However, Zaheer’s best bowling spell from that tournament was against England in the group stages. During famous Ind vs Eng game, Zaheer had bowling figures of 3/64. MS Dhoni showed immense faith in Zaheer Khan during that tournament, and the Indian bowler turned every opportunity in favor of India.

As the country is celebrating 10 years of that iconic world cup win, social media is abuzz with amazing posts and tweets on the World Cup victory. While everyone is going gaga over the batsmen, a fan with the username “Fire_and_move” wrote a beautiful tweet dedicated to Zaheer Khan. The fan wrote:

“While everyone is going gaga over MS, Yuvi, Gauti etc on 10th anniversary of #WorldCup2011 victory, this man was the most important player who made the dream possible. Bowled his heart out with great skill & picked wickets almost in every spell. @ImZaheer thanks legend.”

“Also goes to show the recognition fast bowlers get amongst cricket fans. They always remain the unsung heroes. Flat pitches, almost zero infrastructure and still we have a factory now.”
