This is how India can take the number 1 spot away from Pakistan in Test cricket

India gave a dominating performance in the first Test of the ongoing series against New Zealand and claimed the opener of the series by a big margin of 197 runs. It was a clinical performance as India outplayed New Zealand with both, bat and ball.

Presently, Pakistan is the number 1 Test team in the world. They claimed the number 1 spot by giving a good performance in the away series against England. India are number 2 in the list. Now, if India want to claim the number 1 spot, they will have to win the series at least by a margin of 2-0.

Pakistan’s next Test series is against West Indies and even if they win the series 3-0, India will remain the number 1 Test team.

If Pakistan want to retain the number 1 spot in Test cricket, India will have to lose at least one match in their ongoing series against New Zealand and Pakistan will have to whitewash West Indies.

Pakistan have 111 points and India, with the win against New Zealand, are also on 111 points. But India is ahead of Pakistan in calculation beyond decimal points.

The race for the number spot is going to be an interesting one as two Asia giants will fight hard for the ICC Mace.
