Delhi’s Ranji cricketer Mohit Ahlawat became the talk of the town after he scored 300 runs in a local T20 match. The news was broken on social networking websites and soon he was trending on Facebook and Twitter. The scoresheet of the match was also posted on social media and this made people believe that Mohit has done something extraordinary. As the news became viral on the internet, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils also called Mohit for a trial and this news was confirmed by Daredevils’ CEO Hemant Dua. But a new report published by Indian Express has revealed the ground reality behind Mohit’ Ahlawat’s “record-breaking” knock.

  • Indian Express reported that the ground at which Mohit Ahlawat scored his 300-run innings, is roughly a 60m x 40m patch with a 25-yard boundary behind the batsman. The match was played at Lalita Park in Delhi and it is so small that at least five full Lalita Parks can be fitted into the sprawling 172.9m X 147.8m Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia.
  •  Mohit Ahlawat’s brutal assault in which he smashed 39 sixes and 14 fours was against a set of bowlers from small clubs in Delhi and Mohalla cricketers.
  • The match in which Mohit Ahlawat scored 300 was a part of Friends Premier League, an initiative by the area’s enthusiastic youth. This league isn’t recognised by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
  • Ahmed Ali, who has played on this ground for a local club, says that the small size of the ground makes it very easy for batsmen and many big scores are registered on this ground. “You are never out of the match on this ground because even an average batsman can hit a century as it is easy to hit boundaries. Even in yesterday’s match, Ahlawat’s team scored 416 but the rivals replied with 216 in just 15 overs,” Ali told Indian Express.
