Former Indian captain and arguably the best wicket-keeper batsman in cricket history, MS Dhoni is one of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball. He carries a giant-sized bat but he will now have to reconsider using the same bat during the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka as the rules are going to be changed from October 1.
As per the new Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) guidelines issued in March this year, the size of the edges of the bats have been now been reduced to 40mm.
MS Dhoni along with many other cricketers like David Warner, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle and others, use bats that have edges bigger than 40mm and as per the latest guidelines, they will have to alter the size of their bats. These players have been using 50mm edges bats which helped them clear the ground with utmost ease.
It is noteworthy that Warner, Pollard and Gayle use bat with 50mm edge, while Dhoni uses a bat with 45mm edge.
According to the new guidelines, bats will also be limited to 108mm in width and 67mm in depth, apart from the 40mm edges. As per a Times of India report, Pollard has already started using the bat and played with the same during IPL 10. The cricketer said sooner or later he’ll have to followed the new specifications, therefore it’s better using it from now on.
