Top 10 Best Test Bowling Figures In An Innings On Debut: Scott Boland became just the 4th indigenous Australian to don the baggy green when he was given his debut cap ahead of the third Ashes Test, at the MCG. Before Boland, Jason Gillespie, Ashleigh Gardner, and Faith Thomas are cricketers to have donned the baggy green.

The 32-year-old’s historic bowling performance in the second innings, when he claimed astonishing figures of 6/7, has got the world talking. This has also put emphasis on the board to include more indigenous cricketers, men, and women, in their setup.

Boland’s scarcely believable 6/7 helped Australia bowl out England for just 68 and win the Test by an innings and 14 runs, sealing the Ashes in the first three Tests.

However, the pacer’s marvelous bowling figures isn’t the best by the bowler on Test debut. In fact, there have been 21 better bowling performances than Boland’s 6/7 by a bowler on debut.

Australia’s Albert Trott registered historic figures of 8/43 on his debut Test in the 1895 Ashes in Adelaide. On 7 other instances – by 5 different bowlers – have bowlers taken 8 wickets on debut.

Hirwani, the leg-spinner from Uttar Pradesh, burst onto the international scene with 8 wickets in each innings of his debut Test match against West Indies in Chennai in 1988.

Australian R.A.L Massie, too, had achieved this feat of taking sixteen wickets on his début, against England at Lord’s in 1972.

Now, while Scott Boland didn’t make the above list, he managed to top another. Boland’s strike rate of 4 in the second innings – he took 6 wickets in 24 balls – is now the best for a bowler on debut and second-best overall in any Test innings where the bowler delivered more than 2 overs.
