'A Lot of Stuff Goes Unspoken...": Ricky Ponting Hailed Virat Kohli For Acknowledging Anushka's Contribution

Virat Kohli's return to his form was the biggest positive coming out of an otherwise disappointing Asia Cup 2022 campaign. Virat emerged as the second highest-run scorer in the tournament, having scored 276 runs in the tournament. However, Virat's best innings came when he walked out to open the innings for team India along with KL Rahul and went on to score his maiden T20I century smashing 122 runs from 61 balls, thus ending his much-talked-about century drought in international cricket.

After his sensational innings, Virat Kohli dedicated his hundred to his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika. In fact, the much-awaited celebration -- Virat Kohli kissing his wedding ring to celebrate his century -- was witnessed again. He also acknowledged the fact that his wife supported him when he was going through quite a rough patch. He had said:

“You see me standing here because one person has put things in perspective for me. That’s Anushka. This hundred is for her and for our little daughter Vamika as well,"

Meanwhile, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting appreciated the fact that Kohli acknowledged Anushka's contribution given these things go unspoken about. In his conversation on the ICC Review, Ricky Ponting paid respects to the former Indian captain for his act and urged more cricketers to give credit to their families for their efforts behind the scenes. He said:

"It’s great to see him back in the runs. Great to see him back with a smile on his face. That’s the thing you know?”

He added: “He was so happy, and I guess (he’s) relieved at the end of that game. He obviously spoke very fondly about his wife’s influence on the last couple of years of his life as well, which is also very nice to hear. A lot of that stuff goes unspoken about, in men’s sport in particular."

"Just the impact that your family and your very close ones have on you through your career. So it’s nice to hear that but also great to see Virat back in the runs again."
