Ashish Nehra Is Not Impressed With Virat Kohli’s Captaincy: The 2nd ODI match between team India and Australia saw the bowling line-up of Virat Kohli’s side being taken to cleaners on a dry surface which had little on offer for the bowlers. However, Virat Kohli kept on changing the bowlers and some of his decisions backfired for the team, especially the way he handled Bumrah.
He removed talisman Jasprit Bumrah from the attack just after two months and instead he opted to replace Bumrah with Navdeep Saini. The decision backfired and both David Warner and Aaron Finch got their eye in when Bumrah was brought back into the attack and both went on to strung together yet another hundred-run stand.
Talking about India’s loss, Ashish Nehra questioned the captaincy tactics of Virat Kohli, especially the way he handled Jasprit Bumrah. Nehra was disappointed with the decision of Virat Kohli of giving just two overs to Jasprit Bumrah. He said:
“In today’s game, Virat Kohli gave two overs to Mohammed Shami and then brought Navdeep Saini. He wanted Shami to bowl from the other end, that I understand, but then, why would he use Jasprit Bumrah for only two overs with the new ball?”
Pointing the decision as Nehra pointed out that Virat ‘is being hasty in his decisions’. He said that the Indian skipper is making too much changes in the bowling and also gave him the advise to take care of the same as the skipper. He said:
“I agree Virat Kohli is making frequent changes in bowling. He only had five bowling options. India used Mayank Agarwal and Hardik Pandya – it was a decision made on the ground. If things were going in India’s way, you would not have seen these two getting an over.
“Virat Kohli is being hasty in his decisions. In the previous game (first ODI) as well, after Kohli was dropped, it seemed like he is in a hurry. Kohli has chased 350 several times in his career, it is not a big deal for him. But it seemed like he was chasing 475, not 375. I believe, Kohli is an impulsive captain. He is making too many changes in his bowling. And this is an area that he needs to take care of,”
