Brad Hodge Attacked BCCI On Twitter On A 10-Year Old Issue: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself under the scanner of criticism after a recent report in the UK daily, ‘The Telegram’ claimed revealed that the players of the women Indian cricket team have still not been paid the prize money due from 2020 World Cup.
Yes, you read that right. It has been more than 14 months after the T20 World Cup final, the Indian women’s team is yet to receive their prize money ($500,000).
A report in The Telegram stated that the winners of Australia were paid their prize money a month after the tournament, while the Semi-finalists in England received their prize money two months after the tournament. However, even after 14 months, the Indian women cricketer are yet to receive their prize money.
Responding to the claims a BCCI official said that the Indian players were yet to be paid however they also stated that the players are aware of the technical reason that has caused the delay in the distribution of the prize money. The BCCI source said:
“The problem stems from the tax dispute BCCI has been having with ICC. If we pay the players currently, they will have to suffer double taxation,” the official said. “Our objective is to win the tax matter and pay the players in total. Currently, ICC is deducting TDS and players would have to take a US$ 50,000-60,000 hit.”
Meanwhile, the report from ‘The Telegram’ has been going viral on social media and hasn’t gone down well with the fans. The report also caught the attention of Brad Hodge, who left everyone stunned with his revelations.
Former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge, while replying to The Telegram, revealed that the BCCI is yet to pay the players of Kochi Tuskers (former IPL franchise) 35% of their money earned from IPL ten years ago. He wrote:
“Players are still owed 35% of their money earned from ten years ago from the @IPL representing Kochi tuskers. Any chance @BCCI could locate that money?”
