India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik showered praises on right-hander batter Suryakumar Yadav for his batting performances. Suryakumar Yadav made an eventful return for the Indian cricket team in the white-ball format in the third and final match of the 3-match ODI series on Sunday.

SKY was named in team India’s squad for the last ODI match against South Africa, after warming the bench in the first two games. However, the senior batter made his presence felt as he played a stunning knock before he was perished for 39 off 32 balls in the 40th over. During his knock, SKY scored four boundaries and solitary six in his 32-ball 39 against the Rainbow Nation.

Speaking to Cricbuzz about Suryakumar’s inclusion in the white-ball format, Dinesh Karthik heaped praises on SKY as he claimed that the star player is batting on a different planet. He also claimed that Surya can do wonders for the Indian side in any format and at any position. He said:

“Suryakumar Yadav is batting on a different planet altogether; the kind of shots, the kind of positions, and the execution put together. He made batting look way easier than it was in that situation. Give him the long run, I’m sure he will do wonders for India. But, he needs a long run. Now, every time he comes out, he is under pressure from the players above and below him. It is very hard to set fields for him,”

He added:

“SKY will play at the same tempo in any position. For Mumbai Indians also, he plays in a similar way coming in at No.3. You will get a good amount of runs if you play him at No.4 or 5, but I will bat him at No.5 or 6 in ODI cricket because he turns around games in quick time on a consistent basis.”

Meanwhile, despite SKY’s contribution of 39 runs, the Indian side lost the match, eventually losing the series by the hands of South Africa by 3-0.

Talking about Suryakumar Yadav, he was earlier retained by Mumbai Indians for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He is expected to play in the upcoming white-ball series between the West Indies and India at home.
