IND vs NZ: Washington Sundar Shattered Suresh Raina And Kapil Dev's Record With His Fiery Knock

India's all-rounder Washington Sundar played a stunning knock while coming out to bat at no.7 in the 1st ODI match against New Zealand on Friday. He gave a perfect finish to the Indian innings as he smashed the Kiwi bowlers to all the corners of the ground.

The Indian side posted a target of 306 runs in 50 overs, as Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill scored half-centuries each, and Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 80 off 76 balls. However, it was the batting heroics of Washington Sundar in the end that stole the show. His quickfire knock propelled India's score to 306 at the end of 50 overs.

Walking out to bat at no.7 Washington Sundar came out all-guns-blazing and showed the world what he is capable of. He scored an unbeaten knock of 37 runs off 16 deliveries, smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 231.25.

With his blazing strike rate, Washington shattered world cup hero Suresh Raina's long-standing record of hitting the fastest 30+ score in ODI by an Indian player on New Zealand soil.

Raina earlier held the record of having a strike rate of 211.11 when he smashed 38 off 18 balls against New Zealand in the 3rd ODI of the series in 2009. Washington also surpassed the great Kapil Dev, who had played with a  strike rate of 206.25 in 1992.

Meanwhile, after the Indian innings, Washington Sundar was asked to share his thoughts about his stunning cameo. Responding to this, Sundar, who batted with a great strike rate of 231.25, said that his hard work paid off. He said:

"It really worked today, it was great to get some runs. I have to let my instincts go through, I also plans my shots, there's a program. It's important to get the timing right, along with the power. It's a par score, if we bowl well we'll be able to win this,"
