Joe Root Surpassed Sachin Tendulkar To Achieve A Big Milestone In Test Format

England’s star batter Joe Root achieved a big milestone on Sunday as he became the joint-youngest batsman to score 10000 runs in Test cricket. Root reached the milestone en route to his stunning century against New Zealand on the fourth day of the 1st Test match.

All thanks to the phenomenal effort by Joe Root, England defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets, to take a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing Test series. Root became only the 14th player in the history of Test cricket to achieve the feat.

Joe Root Achieved A Big Milestone

Root has joined his former captain Alastair Cook and has surpassed batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list. While Cook was 31 years, 5 months and 5 days old when he scored his 10000th run in Test cricket, on the other hand, Root was born on December 30, 1990 and is also 31 years, 5 months and 5 days old.

Before Alastair Cook, the record was held by Sachin Tendulkar who was the youngest to reach this milestone. Sachin was only 31 years, 10 months and 20 days old when he reached the milestone.

Besides this, Joe Root is also only the second England batter to reach this milestone in the longest format of the game.

Talking about the 1st Test match, Root’s century saw England completing the chase of 277 in the morning session of Day 4 with ease. Chasing a target of 277 runs, England was reeling at 69 runs for four at one stage. However, Joe Root and Ben Stokes’ 90-runs stand brought back momentum to the side before Stokes was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson on 54 runs. However, Root continued with his brilliance and formed an amazing partnership of 120* runs to take England home in the first match.

After Root delivered a stunning win for England, he received a hero’s welcome with all his teammates hugging and giving him standing-ovation. The video of the same has been going viral on the internet.
