"Pata nahi kis ko lag raha hai...": Former Pakistan Captain Made A Controversial Statement On Hardik Pandya's Captaincy

After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2022, all the focus has now shifted to the India vs New Zealand series. The Indian cricket team is all set to make a fresh start after their World cup exit. The opening match was washed out due to rain but the second game match is likely to take place on Sunday at the Bay Oval.

Hardik Pandya will be seen leading the Indian cricket team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, along with other players like Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. Hardik has already been touted to replace Rohit as the captain in T20I cricket, although BCCI is yet to make an official announcement on it.

It has been an amazing year for Hardik Pandya, who has not just impressed everyone with his performances with the bat and the ball, but has also impressed everyone with his captaincy. When he was appointed as the captain of Gujarat Titans earlier this year, the decision made many eyes roll. However, it vPandya as the captain brought the best out of Pandya the all-rounder. He led Gujarat Titans to their maiden trophy. He was soon tipped as the next T20 captain for team India and made his debut as the stand-in skipper in the 2-series match against Ireland.

The calls got louder after India's back-to-back failure in marquee events -- Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022. While many are looking at Hardik as the next captain, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt was bemused as India wanted to change their captain.

T20 World Cup: It's time Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya joined the party as India face England in semis

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt admitted that Hardik Pandya is talented and has been successful in IPL, but he feels that Rohit hasn't done anything wrong on his part as the Indian captain. He feels that had Rohit notched up a couple of good runs, the discussion wouldn't have happened irrespective of the results. He said:

"I don't know who is seeing him as captain and who is watching such dreams. He has talent and has tasted success in the IPL. But even Rohit Sharma has been successful five to six times in the IPL. If he had scored well in a couple of matches (in the T20 World Cup 2022), people wouldn't have been talking about making this change at the top,"

He added: "In the Asian subcontinent, people start talking about such drastic and big changes rather soon. Not all of them, but quite a few, who probably don't understand how these things work. Sometimes, just for the sake of giving an opinion, people say, 'change the captain',"

Butt further explained that India do not need to rush into the decision only because they lost in the T20 World Cup. He said: "Only one captain has won the World Cup, the rest of the teams have lost. Will you change the captains of all 11 teams because they lost the World Cup?"
