Raj Bawa Breaks Shikhar Dhawan’s Longstanding Record

Young Indian batsman Raj Bawa, on Saturday, registered a massive record during the team’s Group B match against Uganda in the ICC U19 World Cup in Trinidad. The young batter surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s 18-year-old feat en route to his unbeaten knock of 162.

Raj Bawa played a stunning knock as he became the highest individual scorer in a single innings for India in the tournament history, breaking the long-standing record of Shikhar Dhawan.

Shikhar Dhawan had played an unbeaten 155 runs against Scotland in Dhaka in the 2004 U19 World Cup. Interestingly, the highest score by team India in the Under 19 World Cup is 425, which came in the same match in 2004 where Dhawan scored 155 runs.

Overall, Raj became the 8th-highest individual scorer in U-19 World Cups with Sri Lanka’s H Boyagoda, who is still leading the elite list with his knock of 191 runs against Kenya in the previous edition of the tournament.

Meanwhile, team India has already booked their place in the quarterfinals and if they are able to win this game then the team will finish the group stage as the table-toppers in this tournament. Earlier in the tournament, multiple cases of COVID-19 were detected in the Indian camp, which also forced their regular skipper Yash Dhull to sit out in the last two games.

For the unversed, team India is the most successful team in the history of the tournament as they have won the title of the tournament on four occasions.

Last time in 2020, the Under-19 team led by Priyam Garg finished the tournament as runners-up, with team Bangladesh winning their maiden ICC title.
