Well, with the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League concluded just a month ago, the BCCI and the players have already started preparations for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. But ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, there will be a mega auction with the addition of two new franchises namely Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

As per the latest rules of retention, the existing eight franchises of IPL can retain a maximum of 4 players (up to 3 Indians or utmost 2 overseas players) from their current squads. On the other hand, the two new teams will be able to acquire three players from the player pool even before the mega auction kickstarts.

Speaking on his YouTube channel about the auctions, Ravi Ashwin has dropped a major hint that neither him nor will Shreyas Iyer will be retained by their franchise Delhi Capitals for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. He said:

“Shreyas isn’t there I think. I am not there. So, someone else would have to come. I would have known if I were taken,”

Ravi Ashwin, who has been one of the finest spinners in the history of the tournament, joined Delhi Capitals in the 2020 season. He was traded for left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith from Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

In the last two seasons of the IPL, Ashwin has played 28 games for Delhi Capitals, picking 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.55.

Talking about Shreyas Iyer, he joined the Delhi-based franchise in 2015. He was retained by the franchise in the 2018 IPL auction before being handed over the captaincy duties of the team. Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals to new heights with his leadership. He led DC to playoffs in 2019, which was followed by their maiden appearance in the final in 2020.

However, ahead of the 2021 edition of the IPL, Shreyas suffered a shoulder injury and missed the first half of the tournament. In his absence, Rishabh Pant was appointed as Delhi’s new captain. Though Iyer returned back to the franchise in the UAE leg of the IPL, but the DC management decided to continue with Pant as skipper.
