Rohit Sharma Gave A Brilliant Reply To “Why India Has 7 Captains?”: The Indian cricket team has brought a radical change in its attitude and approach, following a disastrous campaign in the last T20 World Cup. In the year 2022, the Indian side has played under the leadership of seven different players in the first seven months.

As the year started, KL Rahul was named the captain of Team India in the first game that team India played this year, which was a Test match against South Africa in Johannesburg. Then Virat Kohli took over the responsibility for the next red-ball match in Cape Town.

However, Virat Kohli soon gave up on the captaincy and KL Rahul had to lead the Indian cricket team in the 3-match ODI series against Proteas in Rohit Sharma’s absence.

Rohit soon returned to lead the team in the home series against West India and Sri Lanka. And then, after the successful completion of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Rohit was rested and KL Rahul got injured, this is when the BCCI decided to give the captaincy duties to Rishabh Pant for the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home.

After Rishabh Pant, India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy job for the two-match series against Ireland. Rohit was supposed to lead in a one-off Test match against England in Birmingham, however, Rohit tested positive for COVID and he had to miss the match. In his place, Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian side in that Test match.

The most latest one to lead the side is the veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who led the side in the ODI series against West Indies.

The Indian side’s strategy to try multiple captains in the side has invited mixed reactions from fans and former cricketers. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has finally opened up on the move by the BCCI. Speaking on the Star Sports’ show “Follow The Blues, Rohit expressed that it is very important to have different leadership on the side. He said:

“I think it’s very important to have that leadership, but obviously, you know, we play the IPL and it’s a 10-team tournament. So, there will be 10 captains who, at some stage, will be a part of the Indian team as well,”

He added: “You know, I think it’s fantastic because, honestly, my job is much less as these guys understand everything pretty well. So, it’s just about if someone’s having a thought, how am I going to back up that thought. For me, as captain, that is my role and that is what I’m trying to do,”

Rohit was also asked about his experience of captaining the side with so many young leaders. Responding to the same, Rohit said:

I know it’s very exciting to create so many leaders around the team because it’s always a good sign. And you want the guys to handle the pressure, who understand the game and know each other really well. And when they are leading the team, all these things can happen.”
