Shane Warne, who is regarded as one of the finest spinners in the world, named his top-5 batters in the longest format of the game. However, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli doesn’t feature in his top-3 batters in the world at the moment. Warne made this revelation while commentating at the first Ashes Test match in Brisbane where Australian cricket registered a nine-wicket win.
As per the former Australian spinner, Steve Smith, who is the fastest to reach 7,000 Test runs, has been outstanding in all conditions and against all bowling attacks across all time. Speaking to Fox Cricket, Warne said: “I have got Steve Smith (at the top). I think, over all conditions, against all bowlers, he has been brilliant,”
Shane Warne’s second pick was England’s skipper Joe Root. Joe Root has been extremely good in 2021, having smashed centuries in Sri Lanka and India. New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson is currently the third player on the list as the year saw him leading his side to WTC triumph. He said:
“Joe Root is number two. He has made 6 hundreds in this calendar year. Kane Williamson is always in thereabouts,”
Further, Warne named Virat Kohli as his top-4th batsman. While Virat has managed to land in Warne’s top-5 list but his century drought for more than 2 years might have played a big role. Talking about Virat, the legendary batter admitted that the Indian skipper has ‘dropped down’ in recent times but he’s still good enough to make a cut in the top-five. The last entrant to enter Warne’s top-5 was Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne. He said:
“Virat Kohli has just dropped off a little bit, and then Marnus (Labuschagne) rounds up the top-5 for me,”
