India’s great Virat Kohli left everyone in shock as he stepped down as the Test captain of the Indian cricket Team after the three-match Test series defeat against South Africa. Virat Kohli had replaced MS Dhoni as the full-time captain in the 2014/15 season and went on to become the most successful Test skippers in the history of Indian cricket.
In the last seven years, the Indian cricket team became a mighty force under his leadership and went on to dominate world cricket.
“7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction”, the time had come for him to step aside”
Virat took To Twitter to make the big announcement. He shared a long and heartfelt post, where he thanked the BCCI, former head coach Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni in his statement for showing faith in him. He wrote:
“I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful. To Ravi Bhai and the support group who were the engine behind this vehicle that moved us upwards in Test Cricket consistently, you all have played a massive role in bringing this vision to life. Lastly, a big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward.”

Meanwhile, the fans were left in shock after reading the big announcement from the talismanic batter. Though, the reason behind Kohli’s mega-announcement is yet to be revealed, but senior Cricket Journalist Sharda Ugra has opined about what could have been the reason behind Kohli’s big decision. Sharda feels that Kohli has taken the big step because of the difference between the BCCI and him. She said:
“I think he (#ViratKohli) had a sense of knowing that his captaincy was on line because of the differences between him and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) before,”
