Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar made some big predictions about the Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli and the newly appointed T20I and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, who is one of the greatest batsmen of modern cricket, hasn’t been in his best form for the past 2 years. In 13 Tests since the beginning of 2020, Virat has scored 599 runs in 23 innings he played at a poor average of 26.04, with the highest score of 74 runs.
Gavaskar feels that there’s a high chance that Kohli will find his mojo with the bat once again as he has been relieved off captaincy in the limited-overs formats. He said:
“We may see the Virat from two years ago, slamming centuries after centuries,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying in Sports Tak.
Further, Gavaskar also talked about the new T20 and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and opined that he has the potential to be an efficient leader, considering his performances for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Gavaskar said that Rohit’s game improved after he was made the captain of the franchise. He said:
“We have also seen that when Rohit Sharma was made captain of Mumbai Indians, he took those scored of 20, 30 and 40 runs and converted them into big scores. When you are captain, you play with a lot more responsibilities. Your shot selection gets better,”
Gavaskar also predicted that team India may see a better version of Rohit Sharma from now on as he is the skipper of Team India’s T20 and ODI. Gavaskar added:
“You know you have to set an example and MI reaped the benefits by winning the title five times. It is possible to see Rohit score even more runs once he is the white-ball captain,”
Meanwhile, talking about both the players, while Virat Kohli has landed in South Africa alongwith the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against the Proteas. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the red-ball games due to a hamstring injury and is currently undergoing training at the NCA, Bengaluru.
