Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two of the biggest cricketing superstars in the world right now. Both the Indian batters have been dominating the cricket world for a long time now. While both the cricketers enjoy a great fan following all around the world, there have always been rumors of their alleged rift that keep circulating on the internet.
Well, ever since team India’s defeat in the semifinal match against New Zealand at the 2019 ICC World Cup, several reports of a rift between Virat and Rohit have been circulating all over the internet. In fact, there were also reports that the top two Indian cricket stars aren’t ready to play under each other’s captaincy.
Both the cricketers, have time and again rubbished the reports of their alleged rift. A few months back, when Virat Kohli decided to quit the T20 captaincy of team India, stories of a rift with Rohit Sharma once again started to resurface on the internet.
Putting an end to all such rumors, Virat Kohli had put an end to all such rumors. During a press conference ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash, Virat Kohli was asked the reason to announce it before the T20 World Cup, this is when the Indian skipper decided to put rest to all the stories floating around by saying he won’t provide fodder to controversy seekers. He said:
“I have already explained myself a lot and I don’t think I need to harp on that anymore. Our focus is to play well in this World Cup and do what we need to do as a team. Rest people are trying to dig up things that don’t exist and I am not someone who is ever going to give fodder to that. I have explained myself very honestly and openly and if people feel there’s more to it than what I have already told, I feel pretty bad for them. That’s certainly not the case
Sometime later, after Rohit Sharma took over as India’s limited-overs captaincy and led India through a historic 3-0 whitewash against West Indies in the ODI series he also addressed the rumors about his rift with former skipper Virat Kohli.
This happened when Rohit faced questions about Kohli’s performance as a batter in the series and he extended his support to the batting maestro, who is going through a rough patch in his career. When asked if Kohli needs confidence, Rohit was taken by surprise as he said, “It’s a different matter that he did get a hundred, but in the series against South Africa, he scored two half-centuries. I don’t think there is anything wrong. The team management is not worried at all.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently plying their trade for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively, in the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
