Why Did Virat Kohli Stare At Hardik Pandya?

Virat Kohli continued his terrific return to form by celebrating his 45th ODI century - and back-to-back in consecutive ODIs after hitting one in the 3rd ODI in Bangladesh - against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.

With the help of 12 fours and 1 six, Kohli scored 113 runs in 87 balls, after Rohit Sharma (83 off 67) and Shubman Gill (70 off 60) laid the platform for the launch of Kohli as India piled up 373.

With the ball, for India, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik breathed fire to take 5 combined wickets and leave Sri Lanka at 206/8 before Dasun Shanaka showed his batters how it’s done, by notching up his second ODI ton, but it was too much for Shanaka.

Virat Kohli stared at Pandya for denying a run

This incident occurred in the 43rd over of India’s innings when Kohli flicked off the ball from pacer Kasun Rajitha to the deep in the leg side and both the batters set off.

Kohli reached the bowling crease, and turned off and sprinted for the second run. However, Pandya was still deliberating whether the second run was on. While Kohli was a halfway down the pitch, Pandya denied Kohli the second run.

Unimpressed with this, Kohli gave Panday a serious stare. The video of the same has now gone viral.

Apart from Kohli’s stunning century, the match ended with a controversy - Rohit Sharma withdrew India’s appeal of Dasun Shanaka’s run-out at the non-striker’s end by Mohammed Shami in the last over, when Sri Lanka needed 83 runs in 3 balls and Shanaka was on 98.

Shami whipped off the bails with Shanaka out of the bowling crease, but later Sharma took the appeal back. Shanaka went on to complete his century.

“I had no idea Shami had done that. When he went up in an appeal… Again, he [Shanaka] is batting on 98. The way he batted was brilliant. We got to give it to him. We cannot get him out like that. We wanted to get him out the way we thought we would get him out. But that was not something that we thought of. But again, hats off to him, he played really well,” Rohit said in the post-match presser.
