Twitter Erupts With You As BCCI Confirm IPL 2020 In UAE

As the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has finally announced that the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off on 19th of September this year, the Twitterati are absolutely ecstatic.

Since the time the ICC postponed the T20 World Cup, the speculations were rife that the schedule for the IPL would be announced soon as a window had opened up for the tournament. And just as it was speculated, BCCI came up with the announcement today.

According to the schedule, the final of the tournament will take place on 8th of November which means the tournament will be spanned across 44 days.

The schedule is normal and not quite packed, but IPL will still be different this season because the spectators are not likely to be allowed inside the stadium.

The electric atmosphere inside the stadium adds to the beauty and the thrill of the IPL games and the gloss will definitely be taken off the tournament by the absence of the audience.

However, the intensity will still be high because the tournament will be followed by millions across the globe.

BCCI is yet to receive permission from the Government of India to fly the players abroad and once they receive the permission, they will probably list the quarantine protocols that the players have to follow after landing in UAE.

It is believed that the protocols will not be as strict as they are in the ongoing Test series between England and West Indies, but the players will still not get the freedom that they usually get.

Since UAE has only three grounds where all the games of IPL will take place, not a lot of travelling will be involved.

The broadcasters and the umpires will also probably stay in the same hotel as the cricketers for a “bio-bubble” to be created.

Here are the top tweets on the announcement of the IPL dates today-

IPL will be played with empty stadium in UAE. It took a huge pandemic to turn IPL into PSL. That’s how big PSL is. ?

The decks are clearing for #IPL2020. 51 days means it is not full of double headers either. I guess the next step, post Govt approvals, will be to work with health and quarantine protocols in the UAE to determine procedures for playing and broadcasting.
