The man who savoured it all in the IPL opener was Ravichandran Ashwin, from a crackling over that saw him claiming two crucial wickets to walking out with an injured shoulder while trying to save a single.
Though there is no clear word about Ashwin’s injury update, from an apparent glimpse it seems that he has either hurt his shoulder with the dive or his finger cracked in the process, a crucial weapon for a spinning wizard.
The very first ball of Ashwin was full and deceptively angling into Karun Nair that saw him dinking it up million miles in the air finally to be caught by Prithvi Shaw.
The next scalp for Ashwin was Nicholas Pooran who was startled by an absolute pearler from the Indian spinner that barrelled through the defences of Pooran to rattle his timber.
This was the best from Ashwin and what followed was ghastly from the perspective of Punjab. While trying to save a singlez he dived to his right and in the process rattled his shoulder and finger, barely able to stand up fit after that. Primary prognosis is still to arrive on Ashwin’s injury update but it looked serious.
Here are the tweets on Ashwin’s injury update:
A primary attempt at dissecting his injury one tweet read, “Ravi Ashwin has dislocated his shoulders while trying to save the ball. This might lead into him missing couple of games for Delhi Capitals. #IPL2020”

Another tweet read, “Ouch! That’s looks like a terrible injury for Ravi Ashwin.
If his shoulder has popped-out, it very well mean the end of the tournament for him!
Hope he is able to recover fully from the injury, he is after all the premier spin bowler for IND test team at home!

Fans weren’t really happy with this unnecessary effort as another tweeted, “an unnecessary feilding effort lead to a serious injury for ravi ashwin …….#DCvsKXIP #IPL2020”

The final tweet read, “This is partly why I’m so keen on them getting Sandeep into the side. He’s such a Powerplay focused bowler, that he dovetails really nicely with Axar – if Ashwin’s injury is serious, Delhi could do worse than rejigging to accommodate the leg spinner. #IPL2020 #DCvKXIP”
