The Ashes: Skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan had shown immense fightback, however, the Australian cricket team made a stunning comeback as they were back to their best in the first session of Day 4 in the just concluded 1st Ashes Test match at the Gabba.
The England cricket team, who were bowled out for 147 runs on the first day, began their second innings trailing Australia by 278 runs. They started their second innings on the worst possible note, losing their opener Rory Burns and Haseeb Hamid early in the day. After their dismissal skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan joined hands as they stitched an unbeaten 159-run partnership. Both the experienced players showed admirable patience and fighting spirit against the lethal Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon to bat through the last session.
Now that is a satisfying finish!
A nine-wicket win caps off a great all-round performance from our boys in Brisbane.

However, their knock went in vain as the Australian side made a stunning comeback in the last two sessions of the third day’s play of the opening Ashes Test. Nathan Lyon, who struggled to get a wicket on Day 3, was the first one from the Australian side to pick a wicket. He dismissed Dawid Malan, who played a knock of 82 with the help of 10 fours.
Sometime later, Cameron Green dismissed Joe Root’s wicket. England lost their last eight wickets for 74 runs. Jos Buttler looked in great touch, but fast bowler Josh Hazlewood removed him. Eventually, England was shot out for 297 in a space of fewer than 30 overs.
From there on, the target of 20 runs was a cakewalk for the Aussies. lex Carey and Marcus Harris opened the batting, but Robinson managed to get rid of Alex to give the visitors some joy. However, Harris scored some winning runs to help his team win the 1st match. In the end, the Australian side secured a nine-wicket win at The Gabba, Brisbane, taking a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series.
Meanwhile, the netizens are all praises for the Australian side for their win. From cricketers, pundits to fans, everyone took to Twitter to applaud the stunning performance of the hosts.

The fact the half hour we batted most comfortably tonight wasn’t actually shown on TV (in 2021!) probably summed up that first test; few bright sparks but overall just a bit of a shambles #ashes #Ashes2021 #AUSvENG

Problem for England is when they have a bad session they have Test Match losing sessions with the Bat .. It’s been happening for too long against the better teams .. #Ashes

Congratulations to #Lyon for entering the special club of 400 Test wickets. Not too bad mate to be in the company of the great Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath .#Ashes2021 #CricketTwitter pic.twitter.com/H02ykUPwsO

Adelaide 2014, Bangalore 2017, Perth 2018 and many more outstanding spells against India makes #Lyon an outstanding spinner. Never easy to be best against the best batters of spin. Great achievement for him to reach 400 Test wicket. Congratulations ? pic.twitter.com/cGKryY2ZZw

A familiar scene in #Test #cricket – #England‘s batting crumbling, after showing a little promise, against #Australia.
