Chasing a huge target of 420 runs on day 5 of the first test match against England in Chennai, India faced a huge blow early in the day after India lost its experienced Test campaigner Cheteshwar Pujara.
India resumed the day at 39/1 from overnight, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara added 19 runs on the board before Pujara fell for Leach’s trap. Leach had earlier trapped India’s swashbuckling cricketer Rohit Sharma.
The day started on a very disappointing note for team India as they lost an early wicket and that too of Cheteshwar Pujara. After Pujara’s heroics in Gabba, the fans were having high expectations from the modern-day ‘The Wall’, however, his dismissal left everyone stunned, including him as well.
Leach was able to give the much-needed breakthrough to his team early in the day. The experienced Indian Test campaigner was forced into making this mistake after Leach’s length delivery pitched toward middle and off stump, leaving no option for Pujara but to play the shot. However, the ball turned and bounced and could only find the edge of Pujara’s bat. Ben Stokes grabbed the opportunity and took the catch and dismissed Pujara on 15.
Meanwhile, as soon as Pujara was dismissed, social media was flooded with reactions from Twitterati on this. The fans were left heartbroken after his dismissal and took to social media to express their disappointment.
Harsha Bhogle also took to his twitter and explained why Pujara’s wicket was an important one for England. He wrote:
Even Harsha Bhogle took to his social media and explained why Pujara’s wicket was an important one for the England cricket team. He wrote: “I know there would have been a lot of discussion around Kohli and Pant and Gill but if you had asked England which was the one wicket they would have wanted in the morning, they would have said Pujara”

Ripper from Jack Leach to dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara. The ball turned & bounced which surprised Pujara. Classical left-arm spinner’s dismissal. 17th wicket from the Pattabhiraman Gate End for a spinner in this Test

Another one for Jack Leach, he picks his 2nd now. Cheteshwar Pujara is gone, perfect delivery by him, Pujara had no option other than playing it.

What a beauty from Leach, not easy to out class Pujara in India but Leach did it, India in trouble with 58 for 2. #INDvENG

How will Pant bat without Pujara at the other end

Early wicket for England here. Pujara is gone. I feel we’ve been deprived of Kohli runs lately, so let’s see what happens now. ?????????#INDvENG

Pujara’s dismissal brings Kohli to the crease. He joins Gill who’s attacking at a steady pace from the other end.
