Kuldeep Yadav Failed To Make It To India’s Playing XI Yet Again: As the first Test between India and England kickstarted in Chennai, it was revealed via press announcement that India’s Axar Patel was ruled out of the game due to a knee injury. It would have been really disappointing for Axar as perhaps he was in line for a Test debut.
However, the disappointment wasn’t just restricted to Axar. The other person who was affected by this development was Indian spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Team India was forced to make last-minute changes and as a result of Kuldeep Yadav yet again found himself out of the playing XI of India.
For the unversed, Kuldeep Yadav has been struggling badly to make it to the playing XI. The last time he played he picked a five-wicket haul against Australia in Sydney. It was his amazing performances that prompted the Indian head coach Ravi Shastri to say that Yadav will be the team’s primary spinner overseas.
However, things have turned out differently for Yadav. After warming the bench during the Border-Gavaskar trophy, Yadav’s wait to make a comeback has been extended as he couldn’t make it to the playing XI.
Earlier, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli had talked about Yadav and how he didn’t get many opportunities. He had said that Yadav’s chances will be in the mix given the series is in India. He said:
“Someone like Kuldeep hasn’t had a lot of game time but now that the home season starts, he will in the scheme of things, he will be in the team plans, but to keep guys motivated you need to give them goals. There is something or the other to work towards when you are part of the Indian cricket team. And we are striving for excellence on a daily basis,”
He added:
“Kuldeep is someone who has got a lot of skill. He understands there were areas in his game that he had to work on, which he has worked in beautifully in Australia. I see him fitter, I see his bowling improved much more than it was before. I see he has added to his skill sets as well. It is about giving them goals. And these guys are young. So they understand that once an opportunity arrives, and they start capitalising on them, the careers are long. These are the people who are going to take Indian cricket forward. It is very important to keep them motivated, give them goals to take their games to the next level.”
Infact, Kuldeep also talked about being ready to make his ‘second debut’ and had said that for the sake of the team one has to understand the need to sit out. He had said:
“I would be playing a Test match after nearly after two years, so it would be similar to making your debut,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “I want to perform for the team and give 100%, like always. You will naturally feel the same nervousness. There will also be pressure to do well. Everyone is watching you, expectations are big, and when the team is playing well, you want to contribute – big or small, put in the effort, and when you do that, your role is praised. When you don’t play you feel like, yes, you should be playing. But then for the sake of team you have to understand that you need to sit out.
“I have worked hard a lot. I feel that perhaps it is now my time to stand up for the team, to perform for the team. I am ready completely.”
Meanwhile, social media was flooded with reactions from Twitterati on this. From cricketers to fans and experts, everyone expressed their thoughts on Kuldeep warming the bench yet again. While there were many who asked the Indian spinner to stay strong, on the other hand, many came up with hilarious memes while expressing their thoughts.
Have a look at the reaction of Twitterati on this:
Just two years ago, Kuldeep Yadav was touted as India’s first choice spinner in Tests. Now, he’s battling to stay afloat. But he needn’t look too far for inspiration. Ashwin & Pant too fought back from periods of self doubt. Stay strong Kuldeep!

When Kuldeep Yadav plays his 7th Test match, a debutant should present him with his cap.#IndvEng

Got to feel for Kuldeep Yadav. Played just 5 games last IPL, lost his place in the white-ball teams, didn’t get a game in Australia and continues to warm the bench today. He’s a much, much better bowler than that. Hope the team management handles him well. #INDvENG
