The IPL 2019’s auctions saw an uncapped player turning out to be the most expensive buys of this season of IPL. Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu, who is known for producing six different deliveries.
As soon as the deal was done, his name left everyone stunned as he has been roped in at the highest amount so far. He has been picked by the Kings XI Punjab at a whopping price of INR 8.4 crores. There was a tough competition for this lad at the auctions between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Varun Chakravarthy, who made his first class debut last month against Hyderabad, has a very inspiring journey. He has been bowling for KKR, CSK and Mumbai Indians last year and since then, he has impressed everyone with his spin bowling. Now he has finally been picked in a team and that too at a whopping amount of 8.4 crores which is 42 times more than his base price.
Expressing his feelings, Varun revealed that he was watching the auctions with his parents when he bagged the deal. He said :
“I was [watching the auction] with my parents, my sister and my grandparents. I was a little nervous when my name came up,”
He added :
“I panicked a little. I never thought I would go for so much. Then came a feeling of responsibility for the franchise.”
