Venkatesh Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav joined hands for the second time in the just-concluded three-match series to help team India complete a whitewash against the Windies. Just like what happened in the first T20I, team India was in a spot of both after suffering a mini middle-order collapse when Venkatesh joined Surya in the middle.

Later, after the match, during the post-match conference, Venkatesh Iyer revealed how Surya welcomed him to the crease. Iyer said:

“That’s what you need, guys bouncing off each other. When I went out there, even Surya was relatively new to the crease. I still remember the first words he told me- ‘Aaj ek aur opportunity hai’,”

He added: “So I think, when a senior player tells you that, it gives you a lot of confidence, you see pressure as a privilege.

“He is one of those guys who everyone likes in the dressing room, he has got great chemistry. It was wonderful batting with him, I was really enjoying his batting from the non-striker’s end,”

Iyer remained unbeaten on 35 off 19 balls, smashing four fours and two sixes as he stitched a solid partnership of 91 runs for the fourth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav to help India recover from a mini-collapse. He also picked two crucial wickets later while defending the target.

Talking about Suryakumar, he also unleashed his brute power as he smashed an explosive half-century and was dismissed after scoring 65 runs off 31 balls, smashing seven sixes and one four.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav will be seen in action in the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka that will kickstart from February 24 in Lucknow while Hardik continues to be rested.
