Mayank Markande is one of the hottest topics of discussion in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. The young spinner from Punjab, who was picked by the mighty Mumbai Indians in the auction, has impressed one and all with his outstanding display of leg-spin in the tournament so far.

1) Mayank was born on November 11 in 1997 in Bathinda and he spent most of his childhood playing street cricket on the streets of Punjab.

2) Mayank Markande started playing professional cricket as a fast bowler but his coach Ratinder Singh Sodhi advised him to bowl spin and that’s how Mayank’s journey as a spinner started.

3) Mayank made a quick name for himself in the U16 Vijay Merchant Trophy IN 2013/14 season by picking 29 wickets in just 7 matches at an amazing average of 18.24 for home side Punjab.

4) Mayank Markande caught many eyeballs with his outstanding performances in February, earlier this year, he played Vijay Hazare Trophy. Markande played in 6 matches for Punjab and picked 10 wickets at an impressive economy of 4.67.

5) Mayank Markande recieved ’37 missed calls and 300 messages’ after he was picked by Mumbai Indians for INR 20 Lakh.
“On match days, you are not allowed to use your phone at the ground. But when I finally switched it on in the evening, I had 37 missed calls and 300 messages,” Mayank Markande said in an interview to Mumbai Indians’ official website. 
“I rang up a few friends and they told me that the Mumbai Indians had picked me. I didn’t believe them. Then, I received a call from Mr Rahul Sanghvi (Mumbai’s team manager). I was finally convinced. And I thanked him wholeheartedly,” Mayank Markande furthered.
6) Mayank Markande became a household name among Indian cricket fans after his outstanding performance in his debut IPL match against Chennai Super Kings. Marinade picked 3/23 for Mumbai Indians in the opening match of IPL 2018, including the important wicket of MS Dhoni.
