A very young and strong Indian squad was announced for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) and T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Putting all rumours to bed, the selectors showed faith in their young guns who have done well in the last 12 months or so. The likes of Kedar Jadhav and Manish Pandey have been touring places with Indian cricket team and have done well in whatever opportunities they have received so far.

There were speculations that Suresh Raina would be called back, but that didn’t happen and the Uttar Pradesh batsman will now have to work hard at the domestic level to push the selectors for a spot in the squad.

Interestingly, Yuvraj Singh, who was in the squad for India’s last ODI and T20I series against West Indies was also dropped. Yuvraj has been in hot and cold form off late and considering his age, the selectors might have dropped him for the long-term interest of Indian cricket. Yuvraj was below-par in the last couple of tournaments, scoring 105 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy and 57 runs during the West Indies tour.

Also, Rohit Sharma was named the vice-captain of Indian cricket team for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. Rohit has been leading Mumbai Indians brilliantly in the Indian Premier League and he was a very important member of Team India’s squad in limited-overs cricket.

India’s squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (vice captain), Lokesh Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur.
