Ishan Kishan impressed one and all in the cricket fraternity as he slammed a double century for India in the 3rd ODI match against Bangladesh. Replacing the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan came out to open the innings for team India with an aggressive intent from the outset. Initially, he was playing cautiously however after reaching his half-century, he switched gears and became just unstoppable as every ball was either going for a boundary or a six.
Ishan became the youngest batter to breach the 200-run mark and join some legendary players in the elite list. Ishan became the fourth Indian and seventh batter overall to score a double century in ODI matches. Batting with a strike rate of 160.31, Kishan played a blistering knock of 210 runs off 131 balls. His knock was laced with 24 fours and 10 sixes.
After the match, during the post-match presser, Ishan was asked to comment on the fact that despite scoring a double ton, there is no surety about his place in the ODI squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Responding to this, Ishan came up with a very practical response. However, he concluded his statement with a cheeky remark, which left everyone in splits. He said:
“I don’t know, main yeh sab nahi sochta hun – mera sure hai ki nahi hai sure – jaisa maine bola ki mera kaam hai ki mujhe jab mauka milega, mujhe accha karna hai. Main apne munh se kuch baat nahi karna chahta, jo bhi hai mera bat hi baat karega. Aur yeh mere liye nahi sab sportsmen ke liye hota hai, chahe team mein jagah ho, nahi ho… But thik hai abhi 200 kiya hai toh kya pata”
(which roughly translates to: I don’t know, I don’t think about these things. As I said before, all I can do is perform whenever I get an opportunity. I don’t want to speak about these things and let my bat do the talking instead. And this goes for all sportspersons. whether there is a place in the team or not. But now I’ve scored a double century so who knows).
