On February 23, Babar Azam led Peshawar Zalmi won a thrilling match against Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL). Peshawar Zalmi had lost two matches before this win.
In their first match of the season, they lost by 16 runs to Quetta Gladiators. Then, they lost by seven wickets to Karachi Kings before winning by five runs against Multan Sultans.
Peshawar Zalmi batted first and scored 179 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Haseebullah Khan scored 37 runs and Babar Azam scored 31 runs, being the only batsmen from Zalmi to reach the 30-run mark. David Willey, Mohammad Ali, and Usama Mir from Multan Sultans each took two wickets.
The Sultans scored 174 runs in 20 overs in response. They had a tough start, losing Mohammad Rizwan for no runs. Despite efforts from Yashir Khan, Reeza Hendricks, and Dawid Malan, they couldn’t keep the momentum. Malan’s dismissal triggered a collapse, and they lost wickets quickly, ending up all out. Arif Yaqoob took three wickets, while Luke Wood, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Salman Irshad took two each for Zalmi.

Meanwhile, during the match, a funny moment occurred involving Babar Azam. After he got out, the camera caught him changing his pants in the dressing room. Babar saw it on the television in the dressing room and he reacted hilariously. His epic reaction has gone viral.

After the game, Babar expressed his happiness, stating that the win was much needed for his team. He said:
“Outstanding win tonight. A win like this is really needed. We wanted to score 170-180 and the batters did well to get there. Hasebullah started well and his partnership was crucial in the middle. Our bowlers put in their best efforts and executed well,”
He added: “Had we held onto our catches, it would have been a completely different ball game. We made changes to try a different combination and according to the surface,”
