VIDEO: Cheteshwar Pujara announces his comeback with a brilliant hundred

Cheteshwar Pujara played a brilliant knock and held India’s innings together in the first innings of the third Test of Cricbuzz Cup 2015. Cheteshwar Pujara, previously out of the side to presumably accommodate a more forceful batsman and an extra bowler, scored his first Test century since the last month of 2013 to deny Sri Lanka clear advantage in the rain-hit SSC Test.

Though almost scoreless against the quicks – even in Prasad’s third spell he was beaten more than once – Pujara grew in confidence the more he faced spin. Tharindu Kaushal appeared 25 minutes before lunch and Pujara cracked his first three balls to the boundary, one run short of what he had accumulated all morning. His third fifty as opener came up as lunch approved, and the mood in the Indian camp perked up.

Having made it to 86 by the time Naman Ojha fell, Pujara had slowed but Mishra’s arrival livened him up and his feet started to move quicker to spin. On 99, he dashed out to Herath and stole a single in front of mid-off that brought him his seventh Test century.
