[Video] Dean Elgar Stirs Up Shocking Controversy Alleging Virat Kohli Spat At Him

Former South Africa captain Dean Elgar has made a shocking allegation against Indian superstar Virat Kohli, saying that the former India skipper “spat at” him during one of their encounters years ago in India, and it needed AB de Villiers to confront Kohli before he apologized to the Protea left-hander.

The 36-year-old Dean Elgar, who retired from international cricket earlier this month, appeared on the “Banter, with The Boys” podcast along with former all-rounder Chris Morris.

Elgar apparently was talking about South Africa’s 2015 tour of India, in which Kohli’s team won 3-0 in a 4-Test series on extremely spin-friendly pitches.

Elgar said, “Those wickets were jokes. Like playing on that… that surface there. And I came into bat and I was actually like holding my own against (Ravichandran) Ashwin and what’s his name Jeja (Ravindra Jadeja) (smiles) and Kohli, he like spat at me.”

This caused raised eyebrows among the show hosts, before Elgar added, “I said to him if you do that, I’ll f*****g ***** you with this bat.”

When the host asked whether Kohli understood Elgar’s swear word, which was a South African profanity, Dean Elgar pointed out that Kohli knew it having spent a lot of time with AB de Villiers.

“Yes, he did because de Villiers was his teammate at RCB, so he understood. And I said if you do that, I’ll … on this field, I’ll absolutely knock you out. And then [he said] ‘Hey F*** you, F*** you’ (mimicking the Indian) but barking up the wrong tree yeah. Anyways, we are in India so you got to be a little bit cautious,” the left-hander added.

Elgar revealed that even AB de Villiers was shocked at Kohli’s actions and confronted the then-Indian skipper. ABD asked Kohli, “Why are you spitting at my teammate?”

Elgar further revealed that Kohli asked him to go out for drinks on the 2018 tour and apologised for spitting at him.

“Two three years later, Kohli pulled me aside and said ‘listen, can we go and have a drink after the series I want to apologise for my actions’. So we drank till 3 in the morning. This is when he used to drink,” Dean Elgar concluded.
