While the batters provided a lot of entertainment during the SA20 match between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals on Friday at Newlands, one girl hogged the limelight in the stadium and on social media for chugging a couple of beers as the camera panned on her.
MI Cape Town hosted Paarl Royals on Friday and defeated them by 8 wickets. Opener Ryan Rickelton blasted 94* runs in 52 balls with the help of 7 fours and 6 sixes, helping his side chase down the target of 173 runs in 16.5 overs.
Earlier, during the Paarl Royals’ batting innings, one girl chugged down two beer glasses. As soon as she realized that the camera was on her, she quickly gulped the full beer glass that was in her hand. The crowd cheered for her, and she responded by standing up for them after her act.
Moments later, the cameraman once again showed her on the giant screen. The girl looked around and took the half-filled glass of an elderly man sitting beside him and chugged that beer too, much to the delight of the crowd, while the commentators went wild.

Speaking about the match, Jason Roy had gotten the Paarl Royals off to a flyer with his 14-ball 38. However, others really couldn’t bat at the strike rate that was required for them to post 200. Paarl ended with 172, which was made to look underpar by the thunderous knock from Ryan Rickelton.
Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen put an 80-run opening stand in 8 overs. Even as van der Dussen got out, after scoring 41 runs in 28 balls, Rickelton kept hammering boundaries and eventually took his side over the line with 19 balls to spare.
The left-handed opener has taken the SA20 by storm. He is the leading run-scorer. In 4 innings, he has scored 337 runs at a strike rate of 182.
