SRH‘s new captain Aiden Markram didn’t have a good start to his IPL 2023 campaign as he was castled for a golden duck by Krunal Pandya when SRH and LSG met at the Ekana stadium on Friday, April 7th.

Markram had missed SRH’s first match due to being involved in an ODI series against the Netherlands where he smashed a terrific century. But the right-handed South African batter couldn’t carry his form into the IPL 2023 yet as he he played around a terrific delivery from Krunal Pandya and was bowled.

The pitch at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow was very slow and kept low, offering plenty of turn for the spinners to work with. Krunal made hay of the helpful conditions after Markram had won the toss and elected to field.

In his first 3 overs, Krunal dismissed 3 SRH batters, and saved his best ball for the SRH captain.

Pandya gave a nice flight on a full ball, inviting Markram to play on the front foot. The SRH skipper obliged but planted only a small stride and rather played with an almost straight bat. Almost. The ball turned considerably, beating the outside edge – just beating – and hit the off pole, uprooting it.

The ball turned just enough to beat Markram’s bat but not enough to miss the off-stump. It was as if it was the perfect ball Krunal could conjure for the in-form Markram.

Before Markram, Krunal had gotten rid of the SRH openers, Mayank Agarwal and Anmolpreet Singh.

From the other end, Ravi Bishnoi had Harry Brook, whose initiation in the IPL hasn’t been as big as his international career.
