South Africa’s ‘giant’ speedster Morne Morkel, is one of the most dangerous fast bowlers in the world. His ability to bowl fast and extract bounce even from dead pitches makes him one of the most difficult bowlers to face, for batsmen around the world.

Morkel, who has been a very integral part of South African cricket team since a very long time, has a very high arm action. Mostly, tall fast bowlers find it difficult to pitch the ball up, but with his high arm action, Morkel delivers deadly yorkers. He is also very good at outclassing the batsman with his swing bowling.

In the ongoing third Test match between England and South Africa, Morne Morkel bowled an absolute peach of a delivery to England’s opening batter Alastair Cook. Merkel bowled brilliantly throughout that spell and was rewarded with the big scalp of England’s all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket.

More came around the wicket and pitched the ball, inviting Cook to play on the front foot. But the ball seamed away after pitching and hit the top of the off-stump. It was a delivery that no left-handed would have been able to defend. It was fast, moving and absolutely bang on the target.

In his long career, which is still going strong, for South Africa, Morne Morkel has bowled many such deliveries and troubled some of the best left-handed batsmen in the game. Very few fast bowlers have the ability to swing the ball away from left-handers from around the wicket, and Morkel has been doing it consistently for South Africa in Test cricket. Watch his ‘jaffa’ to Alastair Cook here:
