[Video] R Ashwin Sledged Jonny Bairstow With A Send-Off After Bumrah Dismissed Him

Senior India off-spinner R Ashwin didn’t hold himself back in celebrating in the face of Jonny Bairstow after Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the England batsman on Day 4 in Visakhapatnam. This led to some heated exchange of words between R Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow at the stroke of lunch on Monday.

With India on top having taken four wickets in the first session of Day 4 in Vizag, Rohit Sharma reintroduced his main bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who once again delivered. In the last over before Lunch, Bumrah trapped Bairstow LBW which sent the Indian players and the crowd wild.

As soon as the on-field umpire raised his finger to India’s appeal, R Ashwin came near the pitchside and celebrated very closely to Bairstow, almost right in his face intentionally.

R Ashwin pumped his fists and maybe even let out some words which irked Bairstow, who was already thinking about taking a DRS. Both players exchanged some verbal volleys before quickly going their way. Bairstow took the DRS but to no avail, as it showed the umpire’s call on hitting and the decision of OUT stayed.

India took a stronghold on England’s innings with 5 strikes in the first session on Day 4. Chasing a record target of 399, England started the day at 67/1, but by Lunch, their score read 196/6. They got runs a brisk rate but India kept chipping with wickets.

Ashwin, who was wicketless in the first innings, has three wickets in his bag and is just one wicket away from 500 Test scalps.

Axar first removed nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed, before Ashwin and Kuldeep got into the act to get rid of Pope, Root, and Zak Crawley, who scored 73 runs. Bumrah struck at the stroke of lunch with Jonny Bairstow’s wicket and now only Ben Stokes stands between India and a victory.
